Brooks Hill Winery, the little winery up the hill, is a dream come true for Mike and Karen Hatzell. The winery has brought them the opportunity to pursue activities that they have long enjoyed. It is their hope that you will come and visit them at Brooks Hill Winery, the little winery up the hill, meet their beautiful labradoodle, Lili, enjoy some Brooks Hill wine, walk in the woods, sit on the patio, under the pavilion or in front of the fireplace and just uncork and unwine!
Mike's initial love of the land and farming developed in his youth when he would spend summers with his aunt and uncle, Barbara and Lewis Bandy, on their farm in
When Mike and Karen married in 1996, he expressed to her his dream to someday own and operate a vineyard and winery. Over the years Mike has casually looked for the right property. He was drawn to Brooks Hill where the Hatzell family roots run deep. After one look at the property, Mike could envision the vineyard and winery, it took Karen quite a bit longer to see it! In August 2006, Mike and Karen purchased the property where Brooks Hill Winery sits.

Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories.
From the movie “An Affair to Remember”
You will always have warm memories from your visits to the little winery up the hill. While the BHW vineyard sleeps this winter, everyone and everything else will be in full swing!
The new wine production building is up and the transfer of tanks and wine storage to that facility has been completed. We are now deciding when to begin remodeling the old production and storage areas. If all goes well, we hope to have the renovations completed by this time next year (or sooner).
In October, BHW again participated in “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” by donating 10% of the proceeds from the sale of Rose of Sharon and all pink items in the gift shop to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Our donation almost doubled from last year to $173.64. We again used the holiday season and the BHW Annual Ornament Exchange to collect food for Dare to Care. Thanks to the kindness of our friends, BHW was able to donate over 200 pounds of food for this cause, an increase of 50 pounds over last year. Thanks to the BHW friends and customers who helped to prove that wine lovers are also caring and compassionate people!
Our wine tanks are full to capacity! They are bubbling and churning turning juice into wine. Butch is working on a couple of new wines for BHW – Black & Blue and Brooks Berry Cordial – we are excited about them! We think you will be too! Mike and Lili are working hard as usual using the winter months to remove trees to make the place more beautiful come Spring.
We will be celebrating Lili's 5th birthday this year! We will use that occasion to release our Black & Blue wine. Check the Events page for more details.
Wine School will begin again on February 2, 2012. Check out the web page for more details. It is a fun hobby to develop and Butch is an excellent teacher!
As always, we invite you to come to the little winery up the hill, bring your family and friends, and enjoy Brooks Hill wine by the fire and build some warm winter memories! We always enjoy having your company and Lili will be there to greet you!
