Brooks Hill Winery, the little winery up the hill, is a dream come true for Mike and Karen Hatzell.  The winery has brought them the opportunity to pursue activities that they have long enjoyed.

Mike's initial love of the land and farming developed in his youth when he would spend summers with his aunt and uncle, Barbara and Lewis Bandy, on their farm in Irvington, Kentucky.  This love has stayed with him throughout his life's journey.    While stationed in France during his army enlistment, Mike developed a taste for wine and a deep interest in the wine making process.

When Mike and Karen married in 1996, he expressed to her his dream to someday own and operate a vineyard and winery.  Over the years Mike has casually looked for the right property.  He was drawn to Brooks Hill where the Hatzell family roots run deep.  After one look at the property, Mike could envision the vineyard and winery, it took Karen quite a bit longer to see it!  In August 2006, Mike and Karen purchased the property where Brooks Hill Winery sits.

It is their hope that you will come and visit them at Brooks Hill Winery, the little winery up the hill, meet their beautiful labradoodle, Lili, enjoy some Brooks Hill wine, walk in the woods, sit on the patio, under the pavilion or in front of the fireplace and just uncork and unwine!

"Science has never drummed up quite as effective a tranquilizing agent as a sunny spring day.”  ~W. Earl Hall

Brooks Hill Winery – the little winery up the hill – is the perfect place to enjoy the tranquility of a sunny spring day!    The warm breezes and the greening of the foliage bring the anticipation of lazy restful days of summer.

Even though it has been a somewhat rainy winter and spring, BHW is anticipating a beautiful vineyard this year.  Rough pruning is complete and now the real work begins.  We are planting Lemburger vines this year – they will be replacing the Chardonnay.  We will continue growing our Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties.  First year vines require a lot of tender loving care in getting established – but we are up to the task, especially now that we have both Lili and the Maiden of the Vineyard to watch over them.

On April 14th BHW will dedicate its new production building with a ribbon cutting and celebration.  Please check the Events page for more details.

On May 12th Bluestown will kick off our 2012 Free Concert Series.  We have added some additional concerts this year.  You can get all the information from our Events page.  These concerts are great fun.  Come on out, bring your dinner or snacks, buy a bottle of wine or two, and enjoy the good music.  It is always a good idea to bring an extra lawn chair with you

We will soon be bringing back for your enjoyment our Cherry-Cranberry & Riesling wines.  Additionally, watch for our annual Blackberry Blast and Blueberry Festival.

We at BHW hope that you will come to the little winery up the hill, bring your family and friends, and enjoy Brooks Hill wine, the tranquility of a sunny spring day and the wonder of nature as the vineyard comes to life after its winter rest.  We always enjoy having your company!
